The modern horn (a.k.a. “French horn”), is made up of long tubing coiled up, ending in a flared bell. Coiled, the length of the horn is about 1 ½ feet in length and about a foot high. Professionals play on double horns, which means there are two separate coiled tubes, one pitched in F while the other is in B-flat. Parts are transposed by a perfect fifth higher (P5) than sounding. Beginners play on single horns.
